My Bet is $saved by getting Free APs would be then spent on Character Dining

She should use the AP money to join Costco. She can feed the kids at all the sample stations.

Jeezuz, when I was a single mom I had to adopt out (and let me preemptively say to very loving homes- which I know for a fact they are still in 12 years later and I still cry when I see pictures of them) my two cats because it was either pay their vet bills or feed my child. Some days I skipped eating myself but my kid was fed.
Luxury item indeed. People are disgusting in what they try to get away with.
Times like this, I realize why Disney was so grateful to me a few years ago when I pointed out an error in my reservation that if repeated thousands of times (as it had been but it wasn't too late for them to fix at that point) would have costed them a fortune. It had to do with the dining plan. I'll never forget- the first supervisor they put me on with when I asked to speak to one listened to me and said..."So you're asking..." and I said, "I'm not asking anything I want you guys to fix this problem ASAP before it gets out of hand and costs you a ton of money!"
Later on, on a future phone call (we followed up several times on this issue until the problem was resolved on their end- I even scanned and emailed stuff to help them track down the exact problem) she said she couldn't believe I didn't expect them to honor the mistake (which would have been a big freebie). I said "Are you kidding? I just want what I paid for. I couldn't take advantage of this- WDW is like home to me it'd be like stealing from my grandmother."
Later on in my trip planning not only did she help me find a room on the monorail track at the last minute for our anniversary when the resorts showed booked solid but she had flowers delivered in a Mickey mug to the room for me and a little anniversary set-up with champagne, a rose and a card signed by Beauty and the Beast. I never expected anything, they were lovely surprises.
I hate when people try to get something for nothing or make you feel bad for their own mistakes. If 9 dollars a month is going to bounce your checkbook then yeah, better to make other choices how to spend it.
Unreal.

Interesting difference. At WDW you can renew any level of AP within 30 days on either side of expiration and get the renewal rate. And for Florida Residents under the MPP for a renewal they do not need any down payment.

There's been a few times when the sample stations are passing out good samples that I've had lunch ala (shopping)cart.
Prices here, in general, are a lot higher than the Mainland. Costco has held the line though. A study showed their Hawaii prices were only a few cents more then their price on the Mainland.
A good indication here on Maui is a lot of tourists make it their first stop after picking up their cars. Someone at Costco made the right decision by placing the store on the airport access road.

OK,now I know how to do Maui for cheap-
1) Sleep on Beach
2) Shop at Costco for food
3)"coincidentally" show up at the Hyatt Lounge when Hobie is celebrating an especially fine day boating ;)

1) Doable - There's lots of camping space available.
2) That and snorkle for some spear fishing.
3) Either Umalu at the Hyatt or the Lahaina Yacht Club. I know guys at both.

As this board's token homeless person, I agree--most people who ask for money on the street will never spend it for food, kids, etc.. If they're being honest, try asking them if you can get them food, diapers for their kids, etc.. If they say no, they're scamming you. If they need a place to spend the night, ask if they are aware of shelters. If that woman in San Diego was getting food stamps, she would've been given information on shelters, hotel vouchers, etc.. I work part-time, collect pennies and other coins off the street, and get food stamps (must've been when they were coupons with that lady; they're now in the form of a debit card), which I mainly use for buying lunch in stores.
I agree, anybody who maintains they need money to feed their kids but has money to buy tobacco needs a rude awakening. Too bad that woman in San Diego didn't leave a forwarding address--you could've gotten her for food stamp fraud. Anybody who has trouble feeding their kids would probably be better off handing them over to relatives to raise, or the state. Not ideal, but then the kids would be off the street.

The Woman in San Diego was in the middle of October, most likely did have a debit card(and a place to stay, she was wearing a clean white Sundress)Did see some homeless encampments while in SD,and in Ocean Beach where we stayed, there are ALWAYS people sleeping on the beach. The plight of these people make the person who was screaming to get her AP RENEWED all the more outrageous
Even the "homeless" scammers have severe drug and alcohol problems, they deserve some empathy and to be pointed toward help-the lady screaming for her AP-NO.
