Is there a site other than Disney's

Post by HappyCamper » Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:14 am

to get answers about seeking WDW employment? I may be able to move quicker than I thought and have questions like when should I apply? Now, or once I get there?

I also know that some complexes offer discounts to cast members and was told that WDW will furnish a list once hired. (I find that one hard to believe.) But, if those things do exist, I'd hate to look without knowing where to start for those possible discounts. How do you find out about the safety of a complex or community?

I'm also considering Celebration. The website is great but I don't find it has much 'real' info.

Are there certain days that WDW hires? Interviews? What is the interview process? and more.

Thanks for any suggestions or answers you can give. (No company secrets, please.)

There is one web site you might want to try. Odd URL though: http://www.stupidguesttricks.com is the name of it.

Not until you have a valid Florida address. Having a local phone number will help too, as some extensions can't call out of area.
I also know that some complexes offer discounts to cast members and was told that WDW will furnish a list once hired. (I find that one hard to believe.)
Me too! But look in "Eyes & Ears" and "Incredible Discounts". Both list these.

PM me when you'll be in town and I'll see if I can get you copies.
How do you find out about the safety of a complex or community?
Ask folks. Ask here, or better yet, hang out at the complex's pool and ask the folks there.
I'm also considering Celebration. The website is great but I don't find it has much 'real' info.
Many will tell you that Celebration and "real" aren't good friends. Figure on paying 3-4 times as much, then having nowhere to shop without joining the tourons driving 192.
Are there certain days that WDW hires? Interviews?
Normally just weekdays.
What is the interview process?
Call the Jobs Hotline at 407-824-1000 each Monday morning when the new postings go up. Pick one, and click through to a human. But do so from town, as they may ask you to come in the same day. Have a printed resume ready too.

One other thing that can help is a Cast Referral Card. Get to know any of us in person and it's very likely we'll hand you one. New hires with a card are 8 times as likely to last a year, so they can sometimes make the difference.

Break a leg!

CM Discounts on housing are for current cast ... you will be required to show at least one pay stub. Typically, these discounts are for FT Cast since non-FT cast usually have another job that pays the bills. If you are new to Florida, they may require a months worth of Disney pay stubs along with the usual income verification info apartments/leasers require.

Once you sign anything but a month to month lease, you are locked into price. That price will never go down...they seem to steadily go up even in this economy. Month to month leases are significantly higher, typically.

One important point about renting in Florida --- most decent places want a one-year lease. This is because anything six months or less qualifies for the tourism tax and requires a hotel license. Big PITA.

Go for the lease. Most decent places will be glad to let you out early if you have some big status change, like a better job, no job, new boy/girlfriend, moving home, etc., so long as you've been paying on time.

I 'pretty sure',here once you sign a lease unless you show 'just cause',you get stuck with the amount for that time period.
Years ago we had a customer come in and get the same moving equipment within 3 days. What had happened was that the day after he moved into his 'new' apartment, a drug deal went bad 2 doors down from his. Someone was shot and killed.
Since the 'management' could not provide a 'reasonable' safe and secure place he booked. The apartment tried to argue the piont and he told them to "Fuck Off,talk to my lawyer".

This is definitely more information than I would have dreamed. Thank you so much for the valuable details. I'm getting so excited ~ even after reading that guests are selfish enough to complain about the lack of milk for their coffee. Kill 'em with kindness!! I only hope I can be as patient. LOL

I thought that's what you told lawyers. :D:

In Florida as of 2009 they have to offer you an option of either owing the entire remaining lease or owing two months if you terminate the lease early (the two months is a flat fee, you owe even if you only had one month left.) You have to pick the option when you sign the lease, not when you terminate it; but I'm not sure why you wouldn't pick the two month option when you sign, unless you're REALLY sure you will be terminating the lease with only one month remaining.
