Hi, Loved reading your post abt Kevin. You & your family in the parks are the reasons CMs smile & are able to go to our locations day after day. Thank you for the meaningful words. :) Typos on SGT Boards aren't a big deal. Just read some of my errors. Posts can't be edited after you've submitted & the edit button no longer shows at the bottom right of your post. Have I thorougly confused you? Ask a Mod for help. They're very cool!! Keep posting

No apology required! It's the interactions we have with people like your Kevin that make up for the hot costumes, low pay, and yes, even the Stupid Guests (to a degree).

And now that you've broken your silence, please keep at it. I'm sure you've got your share of Stupid Guest Tricks to tell us about.

Oh, and :welcome:

I'm joining in with the others. Thanks for you comments Sue! That just made my night after a long day. While I love working with the guests, and especially the kids, it's reading comments like that that help remind me just what a special job and impact I have.

Would love to see you post more. I'm sure you've got some great insight as a guest on what happens also. :)

What do you mean you won't smile for the camera?

Thanks! I'm sure I will remember some - and I will have a chance to refresh my memory in March. It will be more fun looking around for stories to tell. I have to admit that we are generally NOT looking at anyone because of people staring or glaring as the case may be.

Staring when we go to the w/c line, glaring when we take such a long time to load on the bus (depending on the driver's ability to wrestle with the controls and straps!)...

You know what's really cool though? Everyone's smile at how fast we can zip Kevin on and off Splash Mountain. That is his favorite ride of all time and we are pros at loading and unloading. This is one of my favorite pics...

hope that's not too big - i'm sure it can be removed it need be...

I want that picture on the front page of this site and stickied. That is what the parks are for and should be for. Sheer joy and happiness but also look how the dad makes sure the child is safe. I have seen healthy kids getting whipped around in rides while the adults do nothing.

Hugs to you and thanks for the picture, it done made my day a lot brighter.

that's actually "Uncle Andy" holding Kevin right and tight. He was my best friend from college and my husband's best man in our wedding. He loves K-man.

Andy can most easily be identified coming off of any ride clutching his chest a la Fred Sanford... arm extended.. saying rather loudly.....

"Merchandising!! Thank GOD they have merchandising here! We're SAVED!"

hmmmmmmm.... maybe he's an SG!!! :D:

Thanks so much for posting that great picture!

I know how insensitive people can be. My son has a hidden disability that causes his balance and motor coordination to be affected. I have to assist him off of attractions, make sure he is sitting on a bus/monorail and not standing, make sure he is holding rails while using steps, etc. I've received comments from SGs who have complained that this "healthy" teenager didn't give up his seat for them, or people laughing at how ungraceful he gets out of an attraction's vehicle. He's even fallen into the flowers while waiting for a parade to start, because he leaned on the rail while standing and lost his balance. It can be embarrassing enough for him without the extra comments from the peanut gallery.

ergh!!!!!!!!

The older the kids get, the ruder people are. Like you can't be over 10 and disabled?

Hidden disabilities are a SERIOUS problem. People need to somehow be educated, but it's only possible to do it one person at a time. My favorite elevator speech is really in an elevator at my job.

Someone will ride the elevator one floor up and get off.. those remaining may tsk tsk etc.. if there is anyone for me to talk to I may say - - "I always try to think that the person may have a hidden disability we know nothing about. Bad knees, bad vision.. something that will make him or her leery of steps. Bottom line, it's easier to think good of someone than bad."

I like to think that in 10 years or so, 5 or 6 people actually may have learned something.

I am seen as a fat lazy lady but trust me when I say i cannot do things. It is sad that people assume the worst in people. You are mightily blessed to have Uncle Andy as there seems to be something very special between the two of them.
