It is actually on the books. But tell that to the guys who do the airboat rides in south Kissimmee.

Ha!

Heck yeah. I love gator meat. It's like chicken but more lean.

Nope. Disney hauls them off to their Wildlife Preserve at Lake Butler and none have yet returned. I know of at least one 8.5-footer who made that trip.

Not at Disney, not since Boatwrights took it off the menu about a decade ago.

I keep hoping that the Florida/Caribbean booth at the Food & Wine Festival will offer it, but no luck yet.

Sadly, it's generally considered a novelty item. The few places that don't consider it such are (in my experience) country places that deep fry and over-salt everything too much.

I can attest that it can be tasty, but it's more like rattlesnake than chicken.

Hmm. Gonna have to try rattlesnake. And it makes sense, since chicken is of an aviary nature.

I think it was anything over 4-5 foot was a required state kill in Florida, then again that also varies by state so who knows if it could vary by county? Anything smaller is generally relocated from what I remember.

I've only ever heard of them killing a gator if it's gotten a tooth for humans.

Though I've also heard the reason why it's illegal to harass/kill gators is because too many people confuse them with American Crocodiles which are endangered.
