The 'what have you been up to' thread?

Post by February » Tue May 03, 2011 7:33 pm

Hi guys!

Have missed you. Been crazy around here, lots going on. Finally the stitches from my last eye surgery are gone (I think...) it took a full two months this time as they were dissolvable and let me tell you it was not fun.

Other stuff going on but before I get into that, tell me what's news with you?

xoxo

Hey Bru! Missed having you around here, and sending good thoughts your way. :)

Not much going on around here. Still at GMR, and things are going well. Just got done with Spring Break, and hoping things will stay calm until SWW hit.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

Hey, Bru!! Missed you here!

Same old stuff for me... singing, lawyering, lawyering, singing, spending way to much time on the internet... :D: And no Disney trips planned in the foreseeable future... :(

Yesterday was the first day of Fix The Junior Sailing Boats. I came home covered in arsenic flavored bottom paint. That will go on for a few more days and then it's breathe in the fiberglass resin fumes time.

I just keep telling myself it's for the kids. :D:

The magic ticket machine sent me to Sao Paulo, Brazil for a few days. It has more tickets in the future, but nothing near a Disney park. We might spring for a side trip to WDW if we end up in Port St. Lucie for a vacation (groupon deal, $399 for 7 nights, valued up to $1500, some of these have a max occupancy of 8!). That of course depends on the additional cost, we like staying on property way too much, but at last check it was over $2200 for 4 nights at WL (vacation package). We're too cheap to spend that, but can't bring ourselves to go to anything less than a deluxe resort ;) Other than that, just working and trying to find time to help out my favorite DL Security Officer!

Hmm, not sure that there's much to update for me at this point. My last job was going to lay me off so I found a new one and quit before they could, so I am now writing apps for iOS and Android; I'm not sure if that's new or not. I amicably broke up with my boyfriend so I'm single again. Hmm...I'm feeling really boring with this update now...

Nice to see you back, February! I hope the surgery went well.

This past weekend I participated in Oakland's Lost Horizon Night Market. It was a lot of work and a hell of a lot of fun. About 20 box trucks rolled into an industrial part of West Oakland, and each contained a little world, open from 9pm - midnight. Then we all closed up and drove away.

Trucks included:

-a Mad Tea Party, where chaos and the Red Queen reigned. You had to answer the March Hare's riddle to gain entry, and then crawl through a tiny door to the party. There was A LOT of broken crockery by the end of the night.

-a Terrarium, full of lush plants, fountains, and serenity.

-The Best Little Truck in West Oakland, where you could get a shot of whisky, wear a cowboy hat, and ride the Mechanical Bunny.

-The Mission: Impossible truck. I really wish I'd been able to see this truck, but I didn't have time. You got sent on a mission in the Market, and on your successful return, you had to navigate "lasers" to find your confection (a cupcake was your reward for not setting off the lasers, which were red yarn strung with bells).

-A Tactile truck, modeled after the Exploratorium's famous Tactile Dome.

-The Smash Truck. Exactly what it sounds like: you get a face shield and gloves and a sledgehammer, and you smash things.

-The Dream Library, where you could write down your dreams or nightmares, and check out other people's. Lovely decorations inside that truck.

-Mac 'n Attitude, a tiny diner which served up mac n' cheese n' attitude.

-The Box Step Ballroom! This was my truck. We rented a 20-ft truck, installed a pergo floor, put up a chandelier and curtains and wallpaper and transformed it into a ballroom. We gave ballroom dancing lessons all night: waltz, tango, cha cha, salsa, and more. It was FUN but EXHAUSTING and my voice was pretty much gone by the end of the evening.
