"That's not what they told me!"

Post by SkipperGordon » Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:07 pm

I was out at greeter for most of the day today which always offers shining moments of guest stupidity.
The SG moment happened when a guest and his girlfriend handed me two "onesies" to get into the ride. I was dealing with a Give Kids the World family at the time and so didn't pay too much attention as I took his Onsies, tore them in half and handed one half back to him.
SG: "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!!"
Me: (he now had my full attention). You get to keep half as proof of express.
SG: But you tore it up!
Me: Yes sir...that's standard procedure.
SG: But now I can't use it on any other rides.
Me: No sir, you can't. These are one-time use express passes.
SG: No, they're good all day.
Me: Yes, sir. For use on ONE ride.
At this point I had to piece the two halves of the Onesie together and show him on the ticket where it said in big bold letters "Good For one guest on one attraction on this date:" He still decided to argue with me.
SG: Well, that's not what they told me. We waited at the Mummy for 20 minutes while the ride was down and they gave use these tickets and said they were good all day.
Me: Yes sir, they are valid all day but only at one attraction.
SG: They said they were good at ALL attractions!
Me: Yes sir, you get to pick one attraction to use it on.
SG: That's not what they told me!
Me: Well sir, I apologize that the communication at the Mummy has caused a misunderstanding; but these tickets are only good for one use at one ride. (I don't like passing the buck; but I could tell he wouldn't react well to "I'm sorry you misunderstood")
SG: Forget it. (Snatching both halves of the Onsie from my hand). I'm going to Guest Services!
Me: Ok sir, there is one conveniently located to your left.

My lead happened to come up for the last part of the conversation and she told me I did a good job before escorting a very bemused Make a Wish group to the entrance; but I really can't get this guy's stupidity out of my head. Did he really think that Universal would give him a free express pass just for being inconvenienced for 20 minutes? That's 20 bucks! If we gave out consolation prizes at a rate of a buck a minute we'd be Bankrupt before Easter! And since when does "somebody told me" trump written proof that you are wrong? I get the "somebody told me" excuse a lot and it's usually in an attempt to scam me, especially when somebody thinks that buzz words like "Guest Services" will scare me. I didn't see him again after that. What a tool.

It is part of the English language being so confusing. At least the Make A Wish group did not have their day ruined by a CM setting on a writhing guest screaming as his head hit the pavement, lol.

I believe the original poster is at Universal studios which means you cannot get onesies at MK.
Furthermore you will not get comped for complimenting anything at City Hall other than a thank you, lol.
