Whats in a Name?

So with the big and exciting announcement of Downtown Disney being revamped into Disney Springs I have noticed a lot of people really upset about the name change. Some people are personally offended and take it like I we just killed there kitty.

I just do not understand why people get so upset over the name and refuse to call it by its new name. Good case is the change from Disney MGM Studios to Disney Hollywood Studios. Its been 6 years and there are still people who refuse to call it Hollywood studios.

My own sister still calls Epcot, Epcot Center. Even though I tell her every time that its just Epcot. She goes No, it will always be Epcot Center to me. I do not care what they want to call it.

Now this Disney Springs issue is coming up. When I read the comments on various boards. People are not talking about how beautiful it looks or how exciting new stuff is coming. Its HOW DARE THEY CHANGE THE NAME. What difference does it make. Get over it. Its a NAME. Its getting a total revamp that looks and sounds exciting. I wouldn't care if they decided to call it Kalamazoo. I am just happy to see them doing something with Pleasure Island space now.

I've been to Downtown Disney, and I've been to Kalamazoo. Ever since they closed the Adventurer's Club and PI, the only think DTD has on Kalamazoo is Earl of Sandwich. It really wouldn't be that much of a change.

Renaming doesn't usually bother me, but I will confess to using the wrong name for things that get renamed. Partly, it's because I have a hard enough time remembering names that once I get one settled, it's there pretty solidly. I will try to amend my ways over time, though. I've pretty much switched to Hollywood Studios now, for example. There are some cases, though, where I disagree and will keep using the old name. I don't complain about the change -- they can do what they want -- I just don't go along.

The big example in the latter category is the Wedway PeopleMover. (Says Wedfan :D: :twisted: )

Names mean very little to me! I always called EPCOT Center, Epcot, since day one. That never changed for me. Why would anyone have gone through all the effort to say two words when one would be fine. What other Epcot might you be going too?

Disney MGM was a thorn in the side of Disney since the time it opened. Everyone called it MGM, myself included. Did that think that out before they officially named it? Those, so called, Disney lovers that now call it MGM are advertising a different company and basically, in some form, DISing Disney. It's Disney people! No wonder so many get confused and think that when Universal is mentioned they think it's in WDW. Why not, no one would ever confuse the Disney name with Universal without that influence.

DtD...who would care and why? It's a shopping center for heavens sake. If they could find a sign big enough they could name it:

What effect do you think DLR's new rule that kids under 14 have to be accompanied by an adult will have--on anything? SG reactions to be sure, and CM headaches, but I see their point about the rule. If a kid by themselves had an accident, and was unable to give their parents' contact info, how are they going to get permission to treat? That's one scenario I can think of.

OTOH, I'm glad to see Disney is hiring more vets. That should make Ernie very happy!

BTW, will this new age policy be DLR only, or will it be in place at WDW too?

I've always wondered why they didn't change the name to Disney-ABC Studios. Maybe I don't know much about what I'm talking about, but wouldn't it be a lot cheaper (seeing as they wouldn't have to replace the whole signs, just a couple letters)? Plus it would fit with the theme, there's quite a bit of TV/ABC related things there. Perhaps I'm missing something? This all probably sounds stupid and ignorant but just my two cents.

I've always liked EPCOT (capital letters) best. After all, it is an acronym.

As of today, no mention of this change at WDW.

WDW does have a policy that those under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older when riding attractions, but so far that's it.

Actually I was updated yesterday that WDW policy is nobody under 14 without an adult

I thought that it was one between the age of 7 to 13 could enter without someone, at least 14 with them. What would be considered an adult was not necessary and a 14 or older could enter unescorted.
