I'm sure 'someone' will try and blame Disney for this and want their $$ back. :banghead:

If you're stupid enough to not get your kid scientifically proven vaccinations then please stay home with the doors and windows sealed so the rest of us aren't exposed to you and your diseases. If you get bored, track down Jenny McCarthy so you can update your mumbo jumbo science.

Flu vaccines? Not sure what I think. But measles. Like Hobie said, proven. No question. We HAD eradicated this disease in the United States, along with several others.

The science behind flu vaccines is interesting. It boils down to research on what is the best guess for the latest nasty bug, go in to production to produce millions of doses and get them distributed. This year the research was not quite on target so the vaccine is quite as effective.

Here in Hawaii I've found the best vaccine is to stay away from tourists. It's worked very well. You poor CMs are stuck with the gawd awful disease of the day, every day, from all over the country. Wash your hands frequently and never rub or scratch your eyes.

I always considered the constant, low-level assault of germy tourons to be a way of challenging my immune system and keeping it sharp. Seems to have worked.

Of course, I had measles, chicken pox, etc. when I was young, pre-vaccines. I've been on the vaccination bandwagon (except for flu) ever since.

I've had them all and up until about 6 years ago I didn't bother with the flu shots. After I turned 60 I still didn't know whether they were helping or I just had a strong immune system. The problem was that I didn't have the flu before the shots either. (not a problem really) It doesn't bother me to get the shots and have never had any side effects from them including my arm being sore, but, I figure it wouldn't hurt, so I have it done. :old:

A little over 20 years ago, I came down with a cold just before Christmas. Then I got something else (might have been the flu), sinus infection, and finally an ear infection. Basically I was sick almost to the end of February.

Every year since then, I have gotten a flu shot. Usually I would get sick at least once a season. But because of my previous sinus and ear infections, if I got a cold, I (felt) that I was prone to getting a sinus infection. Or, at least it would seem like it would turn into one. It would take me a good 10 days to get rid of a cold.

And in the last 5 years, I have taken a multi-vitamin and take at least 500mg of vitamin C each day. That increases to 1000mg or more from just before Christmas to after New Year (in close tough with nieces and nephews).

I typically do not get sick now. And if I do, a cold will last no more than 4-5 days. Unfortunately, I now tend to get a lagging cough for 1-2 weeks afterwards. :(

Vaccination has a 300 year safety record. I find it hard to believe that in the most educated country in the world, we are swayed by people with no medical training and a general loony bin worldview. There's a site you can check out--www.quackwatch.com--that can really bring home how badly we've been duped by these crackpots.

The last time I was really sick--for two weeks, which is unheard of for me--was the winter of '82, when apparently I had a nasty flu/cold combo. Haven't had the flu since. But I do get 1-2 colds a year, thankfully manageable with chicken soup, water, cough drops and a neti pot, since with my high blood pressure I can't use cold medicines.

I had chickenpox when I was 7, and yes I've had shingles on my face as a result. Luckily, I occaisonally get a tiny itch on my eyelid where it started, so no real aftereffects from it.
