There have been cases where unvaccinated children fell seriously ill or died, and the parents were charged with neglect or abuse.

I guess faith-based immunity is fine, so long as it works!

Here's a response that was posted over a year ago.

This is stuff I posted early last year. It bears repeating.

Neil deGrasse Tyson checks in:

"Not enough of our society is trained how to understand and interpret quantitative information. This activity is a centerpiece of science literacy to which we should all strive -- the future health, wealth, and security of our democracy depend on it. Until that is achieved, we are at risk of making under-informed decisions that affect ourselves, our communities, our country, and even the world."

_______________
“There is absolutely no reason to get the shot,” said Crystal McDonald, whose 16-year-old daughter was one of 66 students sent home from Palm Desert High School for the next two weeks because they did not have full measles immunizations.

But when the school sent her home with a letter, Ms. McDonald’s daughter was so concerned about missing two weeks of Advanced Placement classes that she suggested simply getting a measles inoculation. “I said, ‘No, absolutely not,’ “ Ms. McDonald said. “I said, ‘I’d rather you miss an entire semester than you get the shot.’ “
__________
As Ciel Lorenzen, a massage therapist, picked up her children, Rio, 10, and Athena, 7, at Lagunitas Elementary, she defended her choice to not vaccinate either of them, even as health and school officials urged a different course.

“It’s good to explore alternatives rather than go with the panic of everyone around you,” she said. “Vaccines don’t feel right for me and my family.
_____________
Kelly McMenimen, a Lagunitas parent, said she “meditated on it a lot” before deciding not to vaccinate her son Tobias, 8, against even “deadly or deforming diseases.” She said she did not want “so many toxins” entering the slender body of a bright-eyed boy who loves math and geography.

Tobias has endured chickenpox and whooping cough, though Ms. McMenimen said the latter seemed more like a common cold. She considered a tetanus shot after he cut himself on a wire fence but decided against it: “He has such a strong immune system.”

“He has such a strong immune system.” One way or another Tobias will either be totally screwed or dead before he reaches 18.

Though not a parent, I wholeheartedly support the pediatrician who will not support non-vaxxers among his patients.Where do I write this guy a fan letter?
I wonder how many parents would consent to their child getting several dozen anti-rabies shots when and if their kid should get bitten or scratched by a rabid or possibly rabid animal? Let's see how their "strong immune system" works on that. When my older sister Susan was alive, twice she was bitten and had to get the rabies shots. The first time, she did not have to get the full series because the animal that bit her proved to not have rabies. The second time the animal was rabid and she had to go through the whole series. This was in the 70s.

I'd like to see one of these unvaccinated kids get a preventable medical condition from not being vaccinated, and when they become an adult they sue their ignorant parents to kingdom come. They deserve it.

At least she was willing to admit her mistake and move on. I know the learning curve is steep, but we don't ALL have to climb the same curve. We CAN learn from others. Novel concept, I know.

Measles Has Officially Been Banished From the Americas

Endemic measles has officially been wiped out in the Americas. That means the only outbreaks that happen are those imported from abroad. It’s the first region in the world to achieve this certification, but the battle against measles is far from over. We’re looking at you, anti-vaxxers.

As one who had a full-blown case of the measles as a kid before the vaccine was required, allow me to say, Amen, Hallelujah. Not something I'd wish on anyone. (Except maybe anti-vaxx parents?...)
