Craziness Of "Frozen"

Every since the Disney movie, "Frozen" came out, it has been a HUGE, an understatement of the year, hit! The lines to meet the "Frozen" characters have been RIDICULOUSLY LONG!!!! 4 - 5 hours to be exactly! Parents are willingly to wait THAT LONG for their children to meet them! It has gotten so bad that the "DO NOT RUN!" rule just gets thrown out of the window at park opening to line up at the Meet and Greet location. People swarms from all sides of The Hub RUNNING through the castle. IS IT JUST INSANITY!!!!!!

Our buddy Josh over at EasyWDW posted a video of the Frozen madness over there. Scarey. Can't see waiting that long to see characters. I couldn't justify more than an hour and that would be pushing it.

Well, at least it should lighten the lines for other attractions!

Of course, that's easy for me to say since I don't have any kids (or adults) that would be obsessed about meeting Anna and Elsa.

Having been a parent of young children I have to say this... there is a word in the English languish that is simple and helps control obsessions in their children. That word is simply NO! If that sounds harsh, well, perhaps it is, but, somewhere along the line all situations must be prioritized and identified as worth relentless pursuing. I don't feel a bit sorry for parents that are foolish enough to stand in a line for 5 hours to greet a group of college students dressed as a "cartoon" movie character. They deserve all the blisters and lost time from life acquired because they somehow think that if their precious little snowflake doesn't get to meet them they will surely die. Or worse, hate them for it.

To me this borders on total madness. I said no many times when my kids were growing up, and guess what, they still love me and almost more importantly, respect me because as adults they now know that they were not capable of making logical decisions at that point in their lives. That's what they had parents for.

Maybe Fastpass assignments? I see nothing wrong with waiting if it makes a Dream come true ,especially for a little kid. You never know if that kid (or grown-up kid) is having a rough time outside of their visit that day. Absolutely true that it is good to learn to deal with disappointment, but some get more than their share.

We were just talking about how Frozen took off and stunned the Company.

LOL Funny that this little movie has become such a cult classic overnight.

I am thrilled that the Company was smart enough to put out the "sing a long" version. That alone may have tripled (or more) box office revenues. Whenever we have the song playing any where at the park, girls sing a long OUT LOUD AND PROUD. They have all the harmonies and gestures down. It is pretty magical to see and hear.

Now, you can tell just how stunned the Company is at the success, since the merchandise pipeline barely eeks out enough product to stay on the shelf. Yes, we all know that the dresses literally last minutes on every retail shelf anywhere. At MK the other day, they finally received some Olaf plushes. They lasted about 2 hours. The various T shirts are on the shelves but not that many and not a great selection.

I am so surprised that the Company did not have our China manufacturers gear up on the dresses and accessories. Or maybe they have but it takes a while to get the container ship here and then clear Customs?

Ironically, we were talking about how weak the storyline is and how so many other movies like "Tangled" had stronger story lines but faded. Yet, those movies had huge amounts of merchandise sitting on the shelves waiting the hoards that just did not appear.

So, we looked at why we believe that Frozen will not be forgotten even after the next "girl oriented" movie comes along.

This is the first instance of two heroines (Anna and Elsa), acquiring merchandise like the dresses are a massive undertaking, and then it is the song...Yes, THAT song...."Let It Go". I think that the song is the hook that drives this frenzy.

"Let It Go" is hopeful ...and fearless...it makes you want to stand up and take control of your circumstances. You have YouTube video of actual combat Marines singing along with the movie. They know every word, every movement, and Hoot n Holler when she takes her braid out even. It is a joyous song. That is what was missing from those other movies that faded into the background. There was no hook...nothing that people could identify with after they heard the story....

When I watched the Oscars, I found that the "real" singer's rendition was no where as wonderful as the movie's. If I looked at the sales on iTunes, I am sure that the movie version of the song will outpace the "real singer's" version.

Oh BTW, when I watched the Oscar I found my new fun tune to listen to...."Happy" by Pharrell Williams from the movie "Despicable Me 2". Pharrell's official video is very nice...but I like the lyric version with the minions bouncing around on it. THAT song is practically viral.... almost every time I get in the car and search the FM it is playing on some radio station. Try it...you may find it too. While I am over "Let It Go", I am actively searching for "Happy". It brings a smile to my face...

We were at WDW shortly after the movie came out, and were noticing the lack of merchandise. My wife spotted a pin, square with both sisters, and wore it most of the trip. It was telling how many of the CM's asked where she got it.

Just think, if the merch was made here in America, it wouldn't have to be cleared by customs, it'd be on the store shelves quicker, and chances are, it would be better quality. Not to mention saving jobs here where they're needed.

I have a good reason for not being on the boards much lately. Last week one of my roommates died suddenly, at the house, and we had to deal with the paramedics, the police, and the coroner, in that order. Two of my roommates normally go to bed at 8 p.m., but none of us got to bed until at least 11 p.m.. We now have three very nice ladies taking the place of the one who died, and they aren't creeped out over living in the room that was the death scene. One of the daughters of the roommate who passed flew out from Florida, and together they've been getting their mother's stuff, helping my other roomies organize things, etc. So we've been through a lot of changes the past week.

Zazu, I tried to PM you a few weeks ago, if I remember I'll email you.

Just the other day while I was waiting for Anna and Elsa (YEs, I am crazy! Don't judge me, :D), I saw a girl crying because she didn't get to meet Anna and Elsa because they close the line early at 1 P.M. Later, I saw the same girl, who was crying earlier, in the front of the line mixed with a Hispanic family. When the family went inside, so did she. I told the Lead about it and told me that they will keep an eye on her. So, the Lead went over to the girl took her out of line. Again, the little girl cried and the mother took the girl and left. As they were leaving, the mother gave the CM the middle finger. Real classy. I am shocked what the mother was trying to teach her daughter. I am disappointed in society,
