Official SGT ADD thread

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

If possible, get a wired connection. Wifi is nice for getting service easily but there's so much stuff that can cause problems with it. Power wiring, water pipes, structural metal, etc. Find someplace to plug in.

My netbook came with some wires with plugs on the end, color-coded, but of course nothing to tell me what they are for. No cord that would allow me to plug in. I'll have to ask for one somewhere.hobie16 wrote:If possible, get a wired connection. Wifi is nice for getting service easily but there's so much stuff that can cause problems with it. Do the connectors look like this?felinefan wrote:My netbook came with some wires with plugs on the end, color-coded, but of course nothing to tell me what they are for. If they do then you've got an ethernet cable. Good news!
Thee should be a jack on your machine that the cable can be plugged into. Now the hard part.
You've got wifi in your residence. Somewhere within it there's a router. Routers have ethernet cable jacks. Find the router and plug in. Run your upgrade program again. If wifi was the choke point then things should happen faster.

No, the ends are round and look like they might be for plugging something into, like external speakers.
I hate when things get complicated.

So, I went to the Acer site to find a recovery disk, and it says it's for machines with optical drives.
Uh, netbooks don't have drives. I'm trying to get together with one of my former roomies who has my stuff and hers in storage so I can get my external hard drive out, but it's just not happening for a variety of reasons. It's a read-only HD; will it still work?
By the way----MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!!

Read only should work. Nothing should need to be written to the recovery disk.

Re: Official SGT ADD thread
Okay, thanks. I just wish my former roomie would give me a copy of the key to the storage unit, so I can get it myself, but she says the way she has everything stacked, it could be dangerous. I've seen her pack a storage space, and tend to agree, but I still need my stuff!
