As for the old KOD costumes they went along with the Roaring Twenties Theme where the ride was located (remember when Knott's used to worry about things like theming?) The load point was at a mock-up news stand so the RO's wore newsboy costumes. Now, it makes absoloutley no sense for them to be wear...
