Now you can check in for DME using your Magic Bands! Hey, wait…

ORLANDO, FL — Disney has provided free transportation to its Walt Disney World resort guests through its “Disney’s Magical Express” buses for over 75 years [Note: check this figure before publishing], but something new is on the horizon. Beginning this Fall, guests will have the option to obtain a Fastpass for the service.

“It’s a perfect option for our guests,” Disney spokesperson Jun Disney (no relation) tells Uncle Walt’s Insider.

“Most of them already have their Magic Bands on,” Disney (no relation) continues. “They can go online or use their My Disney Experience app to select a Fastpass return window that corresponds with their flight arrival time. Then when they arrive at Orlando International Airport, they can skip luggage claim and go directly to the Magical Express check-in on side B, level 1. Our friendly cast members will scan their Magic Bands and direct them to a queue where there will usually only be a short wait for a bus to their resort!”

We noticed that this didn’t seem very different than the current system, and asked Disney (no relation) to explain. At first she was reluctant, but a well-placed five-spot got her talking.

“Okay, really, yeah, … it doesn’t make your wait for your bus any shorter. The only difference is that by booking it this way, it counts as a Tier 1 Fastpass for Animal Kingdom. We’re just hoping to lighten some of the demand for Avatar Flight of Passage.”

According to Disney (no relation), Disney (the company)’s Magical Express Fastpass will become a Tier 1 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens.
