The popular made-from-scratch sweet now requires a wait of several months.

ANAHEIM, CA — Diehard Disney fans have known about the Disneyland candy canes for years. No ordinary Christmas treat, this confection is cooked, colored, stretched and shaped by hand one small batch at a time as you watch. And the simple recipe hasn’t varied over the years: sugar, corn syrup, peppermint oil, food coloring, pixie dust, and shavings from the magical horns of baby unicorns.

What has changed over the years? Television. Specifically, a Food Network show in 2014 that called attention to these incredible treats, making the demand for them far outstrip a little candy shop’s capacity. And so, we can report that as of today, June 18, Disneyland guests have already begun queuing outside the shop to guarantee access to a fresh, handmade Disney candy cane.

Disney has not yet announced the dates that the candy canes will be available this year, but in past years the shop begins making and selling them in late November.

Would you wait in line that long? No? You did for Avatar Flight of Passage.
